This year I have a reason bigger then ever to follow the Oscars and their every move. If you haven't yet heard me bragging about it, the T-post sponsored short film, Instead of Abracadabra was nominated for best short film (live action).

So for whoever gives a shit, here are my other Oscar picks: 

I've underlined my picks. The bold ones are the final winners.

Best Picture:

 I first put Avatar as the winner for this category. But i’ve now reconsidered. It's a difference between who I think should win and who the Academy think should win. Avatar won the Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Film, but I really wonder if the actors and actresses of the Academy are going to vote for a motion picture that's so heavily features CGI creations as the lead characters? By endorsing such a film, live-action performers could very well be cutting their own throats as technology continues to advance. Up in the Air has also the potential to win, but I’m going to pick The Hurt Locker, instead. It’s also a movie with a message, something that members of the liberal Academy love to get behind. Sure, Avatar also has a message, but to be honest a hammer to the head would be more subtle.

 Cameron would probably get the Oscar if he hadn’t already won one for Titanic, but I’m betting that the Academy will recognize his ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow, for her work on The Hurt Locker. It’s her first feature film in seven years, and it delivers a powerful message about war and the men who fight it. All the nominees have a legitimate shot, but The Hurt Locker was widely hailed as the best film of 2009, so it’s got to win at least one award. If Bigelow wins, she’ll be the first woman to do so.
